CHOOSING THE RIGHT BLADE FOR A CUSTOM FIT
A unique feature of the Colorado Capo is that interchangeable blades means you can personalize it to fit your guitar and your tone preferences. Consider blade width and material in choosing the right blade for you.
SIZE
The Colorado Capo offers blades in 2.0” and 2.1” widths to fit your guitar and the way you play. While a tenth of an inch difference in width may seem small, the result can make a huge difference in playing comfort. What we have found is that the “Goldilocks” blade depends on what kind of nut width your guitar has, and how far up the neck you tend to use the capo.
A bit of nerdy background: Most steel string guitars have either a 1-11/16’ wide nut or a 1-3/4” wide nut, while most all classical guitars have a 1 7/8” wide nut.
2.0” width is best for all applications on 1-11/16” nut width guitars. It is also great for 1-3/4” nut width guitars up through the fifth fret.
2.1” width is better suited for 1-7/8” nut width guitars, and applications above the fifth fret on 1-3/4” nut width necks.
MATERIAL
Colorado Capo blades come in your choice aluminum and brass, and each metal provides its own subtle tonal coloring. Aluminum blades lend a crisp, clear tone while brass provides a little more midrange bass and enhanced sustain. Why not have some fun experimenting with these materials? You might prefer pairing one material to a certain size guitar or tonewoods, while the other can enhance a different size, tonewood mix or playing style. The beauty of the Colorado Capo design is that you can swap out the blades to find your own custom tone!
